I had so much fun creating this piece…and I painted it with a toddler at my feet and a baby on my back.
Because of these creative parameters, I felt there were numerous moments where my artist-life bumped up against mom-life and I felt the inertia. I surrendered to the creative process and stepped into my faith to overcome my troubles.
So much of life, and art depends upon one’s faith—that the painting will turn out well, in the end. Faith that the emotion will come through. Faith that there will be intercession. Faith that there will be glimpses of transcendence.
During the process of creation, a painting starts with dry bones—a sketch. The artist hast to add the ligaments, muscle, organs and skin. My hope is that the Divine will breathe life into and work through these pieces to inspire the art enthusiast each day as she/he/they live out their days.
This giant blue morpho butterfly 🦋 bursts beyond emoji-energy to shine and refract light, IRL (in real life). I’ve experimented with a background full of contrast, a complementary color scheme, and a theme of jubilee- a concept from the prophet Isaiah who preached a financial and physical reset—where those beholden, enslaved, and in debt were freed.
