About Dominique
Hi! My name is Dominique Kongsli (Ovalle) (she, her, ella) and I am a multi-disciplinary artist and educator. I am a mother of two children, and a water fanatic. You can find me paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing occasionally, and swimming. I was raised in the Bay Area and Fresno, CA where I cut my teeth as a muralist working alongside street artists in Fresno's downtown. I lived in Malibu, the Los Angeles Area and Orange County before moving to Bend in 2017. My intention is to create joyful paintings which show an appreciation for nature, and bring social consciousness to the traditional visual art landscape. As a traditional, classical oil painter who dabbles in NFT's and experiments with AI to create original subject matter, I merge both digital and analog worlds.
My subject matter (gathered from original photographs and AI search engines) contains both landscapes, still lifes and portraits—and while these are traditional subjects painted in an accessible, neo-impressionist style, I consider my work to be political. I paint women in positions of power and pleasure, while both twisting convention and elevating a woman's traditional role as mother.
In my landscapes, I try to connect the viewer with a narrative of environmental consciousness. I bring awareness of our responsibility to stewardship of our one wild, beautiful and precious planet.
I also create large-scale, iridescent, abstract butterflies and make sculptural, 3-D relief paintings which celebrate coral and color. The common thread woven through my diverse interests is a profound appreciation of nature.
I've been practicing art professionally for 18 years, and my progress has been quiet, steady, and slow. I feel my skill and work ethic has caught up to my speed of ideas, positioning me for launch, for whatever opportunity comes next.
I graduated from Pepperdine University (BA Studio Art) and have a Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University (Studio Art). I love to create and sharing the joys of creativity with my collectors and students. I offer private lessons and mentorships in arts education.
Founder of Bend Art Events - www.bendartevents.com
“I spend each day creating art alongside my two children, ages 2 and 4. I love watching them grow as little artists. I combined my affinity for event planning, my knowledge of teaching art, and my drive to help others experience the joy of art, to create Bend Art Events, an arts entertainment company.”
